Whilst we are all aware of the severe health crisis from the Corona Virus and are generally satisfied with the Government’s response there is a balance between the well-being impacts and the socio-economic burdens which needs to be successfully managed.
Short stay accommodation, both tourist and corporate, is a crucial pillar in rebuilding our stalled economy and supporting Australian societies mental health following months of social distancing and enforced isolation.
The play book currently is that the Federal Government announces the Federal Health Directives and then the States and Territories determine how they apply these within their own jurisdiction.
Consequently, it appears that some States will continue to lead the way, whilst others take a more conservative approach. That said, confidence is expected to return on the assumption “the Curve” continues to flatten, for short-term accommodation operators to truly re-open for business.
There is momentum gaining for a June/July school holidays “re-opening” of short-term accommodation for tourist travellers based on a robust practical set of operationally specific guidelines being available as an industry standard.
This proactive industry push, currently being strategically managed at State and Federal Government levels, coupled with the recently touted Trans-Tasman “travel corridor” bodes well for the short-term Management Rights accommodation sector in the very near future!
